3rd Virtual Open Days with Sustainable Development in Werner Kenkel

“We do not focus on the fact that the company doubles its size every three years, but that every 30 years we can hand over a flourishing enterprise to the next generation,” said Roman Wieczorek, Advisor of the Management Board in our company, reminding us of the important and inspiring words of the President of the Miele company. With these words, we would like to sum up our 3rd Virtual Open Days with Sustainable Development in Werner Kenkel.
Our speakers discussed the issues of corporate governance, analysis of double materiality and challenges related to the implementation of sustainable development in companies. The event provided practical information about corporate governance, whistleblowers and inter-generational approach to ESG, which made it valuable for its participants.

• During the event Piotr Jeske, Sustainability Chief Officer in Werner Kenkel, summed up the quarterly works on the strategy for sustainable development at Werner Kenkel, emphasising how good governance practices supported long-term development.
• Roman Wieczorek, Advisor of the Management Board at Werner Kenkel, presented the importance of corporate governance in the creation of ESG-supportive culture, and Attorney Marta Czarnecka from the WKB (Wierciński, Kwieciński, Baehr) Law Office discussed the latest regulations on ESG reporting. This was an excellent opportunity to learn about the best practices for family companies.
• Dr hab. inż. Ewa Więcek-Janka, Professor at the Poznań University of Technology, Expert of the Family Business Institute, presented the key issues related to the analysis of double materiality, explaining how this tool helped to identify threats and opportunities for sustainable development.
• Bogusław Kapłon from the Domański Zakrzewski Palinka Law Office discussed the role of whistleblowers in modern companies, including both the benefits and potential threats related to their presence. The lecture emphasised the importance of proper management of the process of reporting irregularities.

We closed our meeting with the discussion on challenges with the implementation of ESG in intergenerational perspective attended by: dr hab. inż. Alicja Hadryś, Professor at the Poznań University of Economics and Business, Expert of the Family Business Institute, and Tomasz Krzywański, attorney, owner of the KORDIA Legal Law Office, Expert of the Family Business Institute.
